Queen of the Night in Full Bloom!
The Queen of the Night blooms only for one single night. On the 23rd of July, the first (and for this night only) flower opened.
The pictures show the whole plant – and the Queen around 8pm, 9pm and fully openend around 10:30 pm. The owner, Peter Ihlenfeld, carefully measures lenght and diameter of this spectacular beauty: approx. 32 cm (diameter).
On August, 14th, Selenicereus nelsonii opened its flower. To the greatest surprise of its owner, the bloom lasted until the morning hours of the next day. A possible explanation might be found in the cooler climate of these late summer days.
